Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday arrested five persons in two separate cases of automobile theft and recovered five bikes and a car from them.

At Vanasthalipuram, the police apprehended one Ambothu Ramesh, 25, an autorickshaw driver hailing from Karnatapalli, Nalgonda district, for stealing bikes.

The police caught Ramesh during vehicle checking at BN Reddy X roads, where he was seen riding a stolen bike (AP29 N 2055).

Upon questioning, he confessed to having stolen the bike he was riding and, in addition, four other bikes from LB Nagar and Meerpet. Based on his confession, the stolen bikes were recovered from his residence, and he was produced before a court for judicial remand, the police said.

In another case at Hayathnagar, the police arrested two intermediate students and two aides for stealing a car from an Ola driver.

According to the police, G. Tharun Kumar, 22, booked an Ola ride from Thattiannaram during the wee hours on Wednesday.

When the driver reached the stop, Tharun, who, along with his friends P. Riblon, 19, and J. Ravi Kumar, 19, both intermediate second-year students, and K. Manikanta, 21, an auto driver, was waiting near the spot in another car, called the driver and asked him to assist his wife in moving luggage from the house.

As soon as the driver reached the gate, Tharun and the others rushed towards the car and fled with it. They were planning to sell the car in Vijayawada and split the money amongst themselves.

After duly analysing the available clues, the accused were intercepted on the outskirts of the city and remanded to judicial custody, the police said.
