KCR visits power production plant in Ramagundam

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday called for comprehensive reforms in the way coal is allocated to thermal power stations which in turn should lead to reduction of power production costs. Demanding that the Centre take steps in this direction, the Chief Minister said he will lead this initiative with the new government that is to be formed at the Centre soon.
Chandrashekhar Rao also announced that the State government will permit National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to set up solar power generating stations on the various reservoirs in Telangana. To start with, a small reservoir will be allocated to start a pilot project and after evaluating the results, NTPC will be allotted larger reservoirs to set up the solar power plants. He also urged NTPC to provide 2,000 MW of power to the State in view of the increasing demand for electricity in the State.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting with NTPC, and State power utilities officials and SCCL officials at Ramagundam on Saturday evening after inspecting the ongoing construction of the NTPC’s 1,600 MW plant in Ramagundam. Responding to NTPC officials who explained that the first two 800 MW units will begin production in October next and two more units will come on stream in 2021, Chandrashekhar Rao urged them to complete the projects ahead of their deadlines.
