The exodus from Congress party to the TRS continued unabated with one more Congress party MLA, Vanama Venkateswara Rao from Kothagudem constituency, announcing on Sunday he will soon join the TRS. This makes him the ninth Congress legislator to do so and in the process, the strength of Congress, the principal opposition party in the Legislative Assembly, is set to collapse from 19 to ten.

Vanama, who reportedly met with Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday at the latter’s farmhouse in Erravelli village in Gajwel constituency, said in a statement his decision is in tune with public support to TRS and Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership that saw TRS receive a thumping victory in the Assembly elections.

I have decided to join hands with the Chief Minister following his assurance of assistance for comprehensive development of my constituency. I have also discussed this issue with my supporters and party leaders in the constituency. I have full faith in the Chief Minister’s leadership and have decided to join the TRS,” he said. Vanama also said he was willing to resign as an MLA and contest again on a TRS party ticket.
