Once bitten, twice shy. Determined to do whatever possible to avoid an embarrassing and troublesome situation similar to the one that arose after the announcement of the Intermediate results in April, the Directorate of Government Examinations, popular as the SSC Board, is taking up a number of initiatives before the Class X results are announced later this month.

While a mobile application will be launched in a couple of days, steps are being taken to offer counselling for students and to put in place a five-layer scrutiny process to ensure that there are no glitches in the results. Legalities for re-evaluation of answer scripts too are being examined.

According to T Vijaya Kumar, Commissioner and Director, School Education, the app, which is in its final stages, would help students and parents submit grievances by simply entering the hall ticket number and date of birth. An acknowledgement for the complaint would immediately be sent, while the issue would be resolved in two days. Complaints could also be submitted on the website of the Directorate. The app would be launched in a couple of days, he said, adding that a separate link for all schools would also be provided this year for downloading the results as a consolidate statement for quick reference, without waiting for the results of individual candidates.

This apart, school managements, including those of government, aided and private unaided, were directed to assign teachers for counselling students, if required. The Directorate was taking all measures to prevent any goof-up in the Class X results. A five-layer scrutiny process was put in place with several checks and balances before results are announced, he said.Students who secure zero or are marked absent in a single subject and pass in other subjects would be verified thoroughly. Likewise, results of students who fail in a single subject and passed in other subjects would be checked.

The Directorate also put in place a mechanism to compare high and low marks secured by students in the subjects, Vijaya Kumar said. “If there is an issue, it will be verified at the field level and after all confirmations, the result will be processed. Several checks and balances are put in place. The evaluation work is completed and results will be announced after they are thoroughly checked,” he said, urging students and parents not worry over the results.

The Directorate would also examine the scope for re-evaluation of the answer scripts after studying the legalities. On the allegations of non-eligible teachers being employed for evaluation work at a camp in Warangal district, Kumar said a report was sought, which stated that eligible teachers were evaluating the answer scripts.
