National prize for Telangana cartoonist

A well-known cartoonist from the district, Tuniki Bhupathi, won a prize in the national-level cartoon competition. His cartoon on how brain gets recharged with book-reading was selected for a special prize among hundreds of entries across the country.On the occasion of the World Book Day, Cartoon Watch — a cartoon magazine — in coordination with the Chhattisgarh government conducted the national-level cartoon competition with a theme ‘Significance of Book Reading’.


His cartoon was also selected for the State-level cartoon exhibition held at Ravindra Bharathi from April 24 to 28. Of the 500 entries, 145 cartoons were selected for the exhibition organised jointly by Telangana Cartoon Welfare Association and Telugu Arts and Culture.


Bhupathi is also a government teacher in Mandal Parishad Primary School in Arkandla of Shankarapatnam mandal.


Bhupathi said right from his school days, he used to draw cartoons. Besides education, he continued with his habit and drew hundreds of cartoons and caricatures.


Besides cartoons, Bhupathi also drew the caricatures of well-known political leaders and government officials such as Minister Etela Rajender, TRS working president KT Rama Rao, CMO Secretary Smitha Sabarwal, Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy and others.Bhupathi, who also drew many cartoons on Telangana agitation, contributed cartoons to Telugu dailies such as Eenadu and Namaste Telangana.


His cartoons were also exhibited in the World Telugu Conference held in Hyderabad in 2017 besides Bengaluru Cartoon Exhibition and the national-level caricature exhibition in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016. Moreover, he also drew cover page cartoons for 10 books written by different authors.
