The UGC has accorded top priority to the notification released to universities advising them to appoint "Gender Champions" as recommended by the ministry of women and child welfare to ensure a gender sensitised campus. These champions would work on raising awareness on how to beat gender bias and promote gender equality at all levels in homes, schools, workplaces apart from their own colleges and universities.

As per the guidelines set by the ministry, these gender champions can be of either gender but should be above 16  years of age. A faculty member  will be appointed as the “nodal” teacher to facilitate the activities of the selected students.  The champions will have to undergo training as they are taught by the nodal officer about gender stereotypes, gender based discrimination, equality and others.

Each college is also expected to have a website or blog where students can share their experiences and various competitions such as painting, films and essay writing will be held by the champions.
