The State government’s online cattle trading project was aimed at helping farmers save time, money and energy by avoiding visits to the weekly shandies. However, nearly a year since its launch, the project is yet to find favour with farmers.

Undeterred by the lukewarm response, the district Animal Husbandry authorities have launched a sensitisation campaign for the farmers to explore cattle sale and purchase options in the comfort of their home. The biggest advantage of the online system is that it checks the role of middlemen and ensures good price to the sellers.Twelve-digit unique identification codes are being assigned to the cattle in the district and farmers are being educated to utilise the website, www.pashubazar.telangana.gov.in.

“We know that a majority of farmers are illiterate and cannot handle the website. But, we are convincing them to utilise the services of the educated youth in the village, including their children, who are computer-savvy, to upload their contact details and information pertaining to the cattle,” said an official of the department.

Once the information is furnished on the website, it would attract buyers from across the State and the farmers would get good price for their cattle, the official pointed out, adding that even farmers would have the option of buying the choicest animals at their convenience.
