City Traffic Police booked cases and filed 2,088 charge-sheets

Reiterating that drunk driving would not be tolerated, two local courts here have cancelled permanently driving licences of 21 people, while those of 71 were annulled for various periods ranging from 10 years to three months. This was apart from 358 drivers being sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar, during drunk driving checks from May 1 to 18, the City Traffic Police booked cases and filed 2,088 charge-sheets.97 drunk drivers sent to prison in Hyderabad in just one day?.The errant drivers were produced before the third and fourth metropolitan magistrate courts in Nampally. The courts then awarded imprisonment to 358 drivers and permanently cancelled/suspended driving licenses of 91 people. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 44.67 lakh and those who were sentenced to imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda prison.

Persons caught and convicted in drunk driving cases were likely to face difficulties in securing government jobs, passport and visa clearance. Apart from getting imprisonment, the violators attended counselling at Traffic Training Institutes (TTIs) at Goshamahal and Begumpet.The drive was carried out at Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, Trimulgherry, Jubilee Bus Station, Abids, Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta, Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam among other areas.

Kumar said the campaign would continue for the safety of motorists.Apart from this, about 120 persons were jailed for driving without licence, cell phone driving, under-aged and dangerous driving. Three minors, who were caught for under-aged driving, were produced before the juvenile court, which sent them to juvenile home.
