Hyderabad: The state government will pay for the Metro corridor between Biodiversity Park and Shamshabad Airport as part of the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The cost of the other corridors of the second phase will be shared by the state and Central governments.

This corridor is designed like the Delhi Airport Express Line with speeds of 135 kmph and average speed of 100 kmph so that the total distance of about 31 km can be covered in 20 minutes.

According to a preliminary survey, 50 per cent of the corridor can be built at grade (road level) along the outer ring road which has already earmarked space for the metro rail.

This corridor will be taken up as a government project by forming a special purpose vehicle (SPV) as a joint venture company of HMRL and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The other two corridors of phase - II will be a 50:50 partnership between the state and central governments.

CMO officials said that GMR, the company that runs the airport, has indicated it will contribute a lump sum amount as one-time contribution to the project.
